After Inital Installation

When installing the Auto Directory program we provide a sample database and images testing the program and setting your colors and options for your site. After you have setup the program and made all the changes you want, you will want to delete the database and associated files.

Backup: Make a backup copy of all the files for the directory.
Database: /cgi-bin/auto-directory/data/data.txt -> download this file and empty the file, then upload the empty file to your server. Do Not delete this file.
Images: /auto-directory/auto-images -> delete all the images in this directory.

Changing the Look of the Listings

All the colors, image sizes, etc are controled by the Configuration file ( auto-setup.pl ). Read the configuration file very carefully and change the settings to suite your site. I recommend changing one thing at a time in the configuration. If you make an error in the config file none of the program files will work. Keep a working copy!

Changing the Look of your pages

The look for all the Auto Directory pages is controled by the page_top.html located in the main directory -> /auto-directory/page_top.html You will want to edit this page to match the look of your site. The page can be formatted in any way that you like. It is best to keep a copy of the origional page_top.html for reference. The search box is critical in the way it is formatted. It is very important that you have an end form tag directly after the Submit button.

Search

The page_bottom.html, located in the main directory -> /auto-directory/page_bottom.html is used for all directory pages. This will print anything you need at the bottom of all program pages.

Notes

Editing the listings is done with the auto-admin.pl is used to edit or remove a listing, this will also remove graphic and listing.
File Upload upload images of your cars.
Listing Database Make a backup of the listing database on a regular basis. The file is: /cgi-bin/auto-directory/data.txt Downloading the file to your hard drive is a good backup.
